Foforks: Hi BellaRocks, so tell me a little more about yourself.
BellaRocks: My name is Katie Parr, 21 yrs old, Bella Rocks! is my stage name, I’ve played guitar for about 6 years now (I taught myself how to play) and just started teaching myself piano. I actually started a year ago, April 10th, 2008 was the official formation date. F: Great, So did you learn to play by yourself?
B: I did! I taught myself how to play guitar and piano even though I’ve been writing songs longer than that. My mom actually sings a lot in the church choir and she was my inspiration for getting started with music. Also, my sister and I have a Wizard Rock project called “Chasing Quaffles”, but I’ve been focusing more on Bella Rocks! recently.

F: So how did you start in music?
B: I’ve always loved music, but when I started reading the Twilight series, I knew this was something I wanted to write about. It’s so inspiring I bought myself a music production program and a nice microphone and composed songs right from my computer. When I began to post music on my MySpace, I started getting a lot of people checking out my sites.

F: Which are your biggest influences?
B: My biggest musical influences are the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, Hey Monday, Paramore, Avril Lavigne, and Hawk Nelson. I look to their music for guidance and inspiration, they’re this really cool punk rock sounding band and they’re not too well known, but are definitely worth looking into. They just released a new album that totally rocks!

F: Oh, Im gonna check them out then, how do you relate to the saga, what inspired you to write about it?
B: Basically, the Twilight Saga drew me in because of the simplicity and relatable life of Bella Swan. I started writing songs from her perspective, hence the name “Bella Rocks!”.  My first album really revolved around writing these songs from her perspective, a “diary” of sorts of her life in Forks.  I guess my inspiration was the fact that the songs were love songs and different emotions that surround love. It was so meaningful to write and I actually felt passionate about the series as a whole. Grrr, that answer didn’t make a lot of sense.

F: No, it actually did lol. But I dont know about Bella though, We were actually a little jealous of her in a way, the fact that she got the hottest vampire ever haha.
B: You know, I was annoyed at her because here she has two amazing men after her and yet she goes and breaks their heart…gah, i wish i had two guys after me at once.I have to admit i was jealous lol.

F: And since you are singing about something that you like, do you have any other movie or series that you’d write songs about?
B: I am definitely a huge fan of the Harry Potter series, so I write songs based on those books as well.

F: Which side from the saga you try to explore more and put on your songs?
B: For my new album, I’m definitely exploring more of other characters perspectives, such as Jasper, Edward, and Jacob. It’s a refreshing to write from their view.  Musically, I’m focusing on a more edgier sound, a more upbeat rock. That’s how I wanted my first album to sound, but it ended up being a mix of musical genres.

F: About your first album, you were working more on which one? Bella, Edward or? Because there’s one about Jacob.
B: I think the songs on my first album had more to do with Bella’s side of things; but it’s her view of her love for Edward, or her feelings for Jacob, or how she views other significant events in the Saga.

F: Cool. What did you think about the soundtrack for Twilight and about the movie as a fan?
B: The soundtrack was amazing!  I became such a huge fan of Muse shortly before the movie, and was really excited when they used “Supermassive Black Hole” as one of the tracks.  I think what really made me excited, though, was the fact that Paramore got two songs on the soundtrack!  The movie overall was well made for it being a low budget movie; I enjoyed it.  But, I’m definitely expecting New Moon to be more epic than Twilight.

F: What do you expect from the New Moon soundtrack, because it’s gonna be a different vibe, more depressed..
B: Well, like you said, it’s going to have a more depressing tone to it, but I’m expecting a lot of slow, meaningful songs from a mixture of well known artists to breakout independent singers. I’m hoping it has more music from bands who actually wrote the songs based on the series.  I think it’d be even better if they looked into putting some TwiRock on it!  They definitely are going to be making us cry for half the movie, and with powerful music, we may just be crying the entire movie lol.

F: Did you ever produce anything outside this world of Twilight? Like another projects or bands on the side?
B: Other than my wizard rock project, I haven’t really done anything outside of TwiRock. I’m actually hoping to compile a CD of just regular music that have nothing to do with a book series.  I have written many songs relating to my life, but never actually recorded them.

F: Nice, tell me more about this band of yours. Do you have songs or anything done yet?
B: “Chasing Quaffles” is a wizard rock band that I have with my younger sister.  I’d say it has more of a pop/hip hop sound.  I actually created it in December of 2007 (so before I started Bella Rocks!).  I’ve had a few shows for Chasing Quaffles, but we’re still not very well known in the world of WRock.  We haven’t released a CD at all, but we’re hoping to release an EP this summer. All of our songs are entirely based on the world of Harry Potter.

F: And you go to conventions and all that with your bands?
B: I haven’t been to a convention yet with “Chasing Quaffles” (just local shows at libraies and parks), but for Bella Rocks!, I’ll be playing at the Summer School in Forks: A Twilight Symposium this summer, and in the fall, TwiTour 2009 in Chicago. It’ll just be me performing for Bella Rocks!, but my sister is coming just to cheer me on.

F: Oh, TwiTour 2009? That’s awesome, like a festival with bands that only sing about Twilight, right?
B: YeahTwiTour 2009 is a convention that travels from city to city with Twilight bands as well as several of the actors from the movie. Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, Peter Facinelli, and Ashley Greene have been attending most of the TwiTour conventions.

F: Do you consider working and singing about the saga a good business our you do it just for fun and for being a fan of the books?
B: I basically see this all as something I can do for fun and because I honestly love the series and the fandom as well. I love meeting other people who love the Twilight Saga as much as I do.

F: Have u meet anyone from the cast? Because now you will lol.
B: I haven’t, but I probably will at TwiTour in Chicago; at least I’m desperately hoping I do! It’d be a dream come true!

F: Besides your musics on ITunes, do you have any other published work, a cd maybe or a single, or any other work in progress?
B: As of now, “Nostalgia” is my new Bella Rocks! album which is currently in the works. I’m expecting it to be released at the beginning of June 2009, and later in the summer on iTunes.  I do have a few singles up from “Nostalgia” on my MySpace, namely “Unrequited” and “When I Thought of You”

F: And how do you do it? by yourself or how do you get your song out there?
B: For my first album, I did everything myself (the music, soundmixing, etc.) but for the new one, I have Sam (from the TwiRock band “Midnight Sun”) co-producing it.  I’ll write the songs, he’ll compose the background music and send it to me, and then I’ll record it.

F: So what other bands that works with Twilight that you like?
B: I absolutely love the Mitch Hansen Band as well as The Bella Cullen Project.  Both of them have been so supportive of my music, and they can absolutely be considered part of my inspiration as well.

F: How is the public with your work? How is the response going?
B: I’ve been getting so many amazing comments from people! The fandom is so supportive and encouraging, and they are the reason that I continue with this project.  However, I do get a lot of bad comments as well, but I don’t pay attention to them anymore. I’m doing this for the love of the Twilight Saga, the love of literature, and the love of Twilight fans all over the world.

F: And one thing if you get a chance to see the cast on your tour, you have to tell me everything lol! This way you can give me the behind the scenes from Twitour, its gonna be so cool if you get a chance to meet them
B: Oh I will! haha. I can’t wait! i’ll give u the behind the scenes scoop from when i go to to the forks convention as well

F: If you could send us some pics from your show it would be so cool.
B: Oh i can totally do that! of course!

F: Now talking to you as a fan, which one is your favorite book and character from the series? And do you have one that you were not able to write about yet but you really want to?
B: My favorite book from the Twilight Saga is actually New Moon.  I think it’s because of the epic international aspect of it, and how Bella has to save Edward. I don’t think a lot of people did, because of the whole break up thing. I guess I liked it because we got to see more of Jacob and the whole Volturi part was awesome. My favorite character is Carlisle–I just love how compassionate and knowledgable he is.  And he’s cute! (lol). As for my songs, I’m willing to explore any character from the series, but I’m not sure how much I’d want to write about James from Twilight.  He’s just crazy.

F: (SPOILER) And did you like the way the series ended? It’s funny because Brazil appears a lot on the last one haha.
B: Breaking Dawn was definitely not how I expected it to be. And Renesmee was just a complete surprise. I can’t say I loved the ending, but it was closure. I do love how Stephenie Meyer incorporated more vampires from around the world, though. That was awesome!

F: You told me you dont know a lot from our country, but at least you can say that you know Brazil is the place for Edward and Bella’s honeymoon lol.
B: True! Yayy! I honestly think I’d love to visit Brazil someday.

F: Let’s talk a little bit about Robert, Do you like his songs and Jackson’s?
B: I love his regular voice; it’s amazing, people with accents are awesome! Rob’s got a very unique voice. I hope he keeps up with it, though. I’d love to see him go on a world music tour. I haven’t heard Jackson sing yet; I’m definitely going to have to check that out!

F: I like the way Rob is really passionate about it. He does because he loves it not only fame. And I love those faces when he’s singing lol.
B: Yeah, lol He is sooo passionate! That’s why I think he’d make an amazing singer, because he is so dedicated to what he’s singing about and believes in the message of his music. OMG, anything said in a british accent is sooo adorable!

F: Could you send our readers a little msg as a fellow twilight fan or even a musician.
B: Okay! Make sure you let your readers know that i love them all! Brazil rocks! In addition to that, I just want to say thanks for listening to my music, I have so many amazing things I’m working on that I can’t wait to release!

F: Legal, então você aprendeu a tocar sozinha?
B: Aprendi! Tanto a guitarra quanto o piano, porém, escrevo músicas há mais tempo que isso. Minha mãe realmente canta muito no coral da igreja e foi minha inspiração para começar na música. Também, minha irmã e eu temos um projeto de Wizard Rock chamado “Caçando Quaffles” (bolas do Quadribol – Harry Potter), mas estou focando na Bella Rocks! por enquanto.

F: Então como começou na música?
B: Sempre gostei de música, mas quando comecei a ler a saga Crepúsculo, soube que seria algo que eu gostaria de compor sobre. É muito inspirador, comprei um programa de produção musical e um bom microfone e compus as músicas no computador. Quando comecei a postar no MySpace, recebi muitos acessos aos meus sites.

F: Quais são suas maiores influências?
B: Os Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, Hey Monday, Paramore, Avril Lavigne e Hawk Nelson. Eu procuro nas músicas deles [Hawk Nelson] por orientação e inspiração, eles são um som meio punk rock e não são muito conhecidos, mas, definitivamente vale a pena. Lançaram um álbum novo que é demais!

F: Vamos checar! Como você se relaciona com a saga, em que ela te inspirou a escrever?
B: Basicamente a saga me arrebatou por causa da simplicidade com que é contada a vida de Bella Swan. Comecei a escrever músicas do ponto de vista dela, um diário da vida dela em Forks. Acho que minha inspiração foi o fato de que as músicas eram de amor e emoções diferentes ao redor do amor. Era tão significativo escrever e eu me senti apaixonada pela série e toda a –  ahhhh -, minha resposta não fez muito sentido.

F: Na verdade fez, haha. Não sei sobre Bella. Somos meio enciumadas com ela de certa forma pelo fato de ela ficar com o vampiro mais gato do mundo, haha.
B: Sabe, eu era cismada com ela porque aqui está ela com dois homens incríveis atrás dela e ainda assim ela quebra os corações deles… ah… Queria ter dois caras atrás de mim uma vez. Tenho que admitir que fiquei com ciúmes, hahaha.

F: E já que você canta sobre algo que gosta, tem outro filme ou série que escreve músicas sobre?
B: Definitivamente sou uma grande fã de Harry Potter, então escrevo músicas baseadas nesses livros também.

F: Que lado da saga você tenta explorar mais em suas músicas?
B: Para meu novo álbum, definitivamente exploro mais a perspectiva de outras personagens, como Jasper, Edward e Jacob. É uma maneira revigorante escrever do ponto de vista deles. Musicalmente, estou focando em um som mais autêntico, mais rock. Era como queria que o primeiro tivesse sido, mas acabou sendo um mix de vários estilos.

F: Sobre o primeiro álbum, você trabalhou mais em quem? Bella, Edward? Porque tem uma sobre Jacob.
B: Acho que as do primeiro álbum têm mais haver com o lado de Bella de ver as coisas; mas, é sua visão do amor por Edward, ou seus sentimentos por Jacob, ou como ela vê outros eventos significativos na saga.

F: Legal. O que você achou, como fã, da trilha Sonora de Crepúsculo e do filme?
B: A trilha foi incrível, e fiquei muito animada quando usaram “Supermassive Black Hole” como uma das faixas. Acho que o que me deixou realmente animada, apesar disso, foi o fato de que Paramore conseguiu duas faixas na trilha! O filme no geral foi bem feito por ser de baixo orçamento; Eu gostei. Mas, definitivamente espero que Lua Nova seja mais épico que Crepúsculo.

F: O que você espera da trilha de Lua Nova, porque vai ser uma vibe diferente, mais depressivo…
B: Bom, como você disse, vai ter um tom mais depressivo, mas espero muitas coisas lentas, músicas significativas da mistura de artistas conhecidos e artistas independentes que vão estourar. Espero que usem músicas de bandas que realmente escreveram as canções baseadas nos livros. Acho que seria ainda melhor se colocassem um pouco de TwiRock nisso! Eles definitivamente nos fariam chorar metade do filme, e com música poderosa, podemos muito bem chorar o filme todo, haha.

F: Você já produziu algo fora do mundo de Crepúsculo? Tipo outro projeto ou banda?
B: Além do meu projeto wizard rock, nunca fiz nada fora do twirock. Espero compilar um CD de músicas normais que não têm nada haver com os livros da série. Escrevi muitas músicas relacionadas à minha vida, mas nunca gravei nenhuma delas.

F: Legal, diga-nos sobre essa sua banda. Vocês já tem músicas?
B: “Chasing Quaffles” é uma banda de wizard rock que tenho com minha irmã mais nova. Eu diria que tem um som mais pop/hip hop. Na verdade criei isso em dezembro de 2007 (antes da Bella Rocks!). Tive alguns shows com a Chasing Quaffles, mas nós ainda não somos muito conhecidos no mundo do WRock. Não lançamos CD, mas esperamos lançar um EP no meio do ano.  Todas as músicas são totalmente baseadas no mundo de Harry Potter.

F: E vocês vão a convenções e tudo mais com a banda?
B: Eu ainda não fui a uma com a “Chasing Quaffles” (só shows locais em livrarias e parques), mas com a Bella Rocks!, tocaremos no Summer School in Forks: A Twilight Symposium no meio do ano e na primavera, TwiTour 2009 em Chicago. Será apenas eu em uma performance com a Bella Rocks!, mas minha irmã vai comigo pra me animar.

F: Oh, TwiTour 2009? Que legal, tipo um festival de bandas só sobre Crepúsculo, certo?
B: É, TwiTour 2009 é uma convenção que viaja de cidade a cidade com bandas do Crepúsculo e outros atores do filme. Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, Petter Facinelli e Ashley Greene vão à quase todas as convenções da TwiTour.

F: Você considera trabalhar e cantar sobre a saga um bom negócio ou só o faz por diversão e por ser fã?
B: Basicamente vejo como algo que posso fazer por diversão e honestamente amo a série e o universo. Amo encontrar com pessoas que gostam da saga tanto quanto eu.

F: Já encontrou alguém do elenco? Porque agora você vai, hahaha.
B: Ainda não, mas provavelmente com a TwiTour em Chicago; Pelo menos espero desesperadamente que sim! Seria um sonho realizado!

F: Além das músicas no iTunes, você tem outro trabalho publicado? Um CD, um single ou outro trabalho em progresso?
B: Por enquanto, “Nostalgia” é o novo álbum da Bella Rocks! que estou trabalhando. Espero que seja lançado no início de junho de 2009, e ainda no meio do ano no iTunes. Tenho alguns singles do Nostalgia no meu MySpace, chamadas “Unrequited” e “When I Thought of You”.

F: E como você faz isso? Sozinha? Como lança sua música por aí?
B: Meu primeiro álbum fiz todo sozinha (música, mixagem, etc), mas para o segundo, eu tive Sam (da banda de TwiRock “Midnight Sun”) co-produzindo o disco. Eu escrevo as músicas, ele compõe a trilha, me manda e eu gravo.

F: Então que outras bandas que trabalham com Twilight você gosta?
B: Eu absolutamente amo Mitch Hansen Band, bem como The Bella Cullen Project. Ambas dão muito apoio à minha música, e eles podem considerar como inspiração também.

F: Como é o público com o qual você trabalha? Como tem sido a resposta?
B: Tenho tido comentários tão maravilhosos do público! Os fãs dão tanto apoio e encorajamento, eles são a razão pela qual continuo com o projeto. Entretanto, eu recebo muitos comentários ruins também, mas não presto mais atenção. Estou fazendo isso por amor à saga, literatura e amor aos fãs de Crepúsculo por todo o mundo.

F: E uma coisa, se você ver o elenco na turnê, tem que me contar tudo, hahaha! Assim você pode me dar detalhes por trás das cenas, seria bem legal se você os conhecesse!
B: Ah, eu irei, haha! Mal posso esperar! Te darei todos os furos quando for pra convenção de Forks também!

F: Se pudesse nos mandar umas fotos do seu show seria tão legal.
B: Oh, claro, posso fazer isso! J

F: Agora, falando sobre você como fã, qual sua personagem favorita e livro da série? E você tem um cujo ainda não escreveu e gostaria muito?
B: Meu favorito é Lua Nova. Acho que é devido ao fato de ser um épico internacional, e como Bella salva Edward. Não sei se muitas pessoas gostam por causa de todo o lance do rompimento. Acho que eu gostei por poder ver mais do Jacob e toda a coisa dos Volturi… é demais. Meu favorito é Carlisle – Amo como ele é sábio e compassivo. E fofo! Haha. Quanto às músicas, estou disposta a explorar qualquer personagem da série, mas não tenho certeza de quando quero escrever sobre James. Ele é muito louco.

F: (SPOILER) E você gostou de como a série acabou? É engraçado porque o Brasil aparece bastante no último livro, haha.
B: Amanhecer definitivamente não foi o que eu esperava e Renesmee foi uma total surpresa. Eu não posso dizer que amei o final, mas foi um encerramento. Eu amo como Stephenie Meyer incorpora mais vampiros ao redor do mundo, entretanto. Isso é fantástico!

F: Você me disse que não sabe muito sobre nosso país, mas, pode ao menos dizer que sabe que Edward e Bella passaram a Lua de Mel no Brasil, haha.
B: Verdade! Oba! Eu honestamente adoraria visitar o Brasil algum dia.

F: Vamos falar um pouco sobre Robert. Você gosta das músicas dele e do Jackson?
B: Eu amo sua voz harmoniosa; é maravilhosa, pessoas com sotaque são demais! Rob tem uma voz muito única. Espero que ele continue com isso. Adoraria vê-lo em uma turnê mundial de música. Ainda não ouvi Jackson cantar. Com certeza vou checar isso!

F: Eu gosto de como o Rob é apaixonado por isso. Ele faz porque ele gosta e não pela fama. E eu adoro as caras que ele faz quando canta, haha.
B: É, haha! Ele é tão apaixonado! É isso que acho que o torna um cantor incrível, porque ele é tão dedicado sobre o que está cantando e acredita na mensagem de sua música. OMG, qualquer coisa dita com sotaque britânico é tão adorável!

F: Pode mandar uma mensagem aos nossos leitores como uma companheira fã de Twilight ou como cantora?
B: Okay! Diga-os que eu os amo! Brasil é demais! E mais, eu quero agradecer por ouvirem minha música e tenho tantas coisas maravilhosas que estou trabalhando agora, mal posso esperar pra lançar!

F: Ótimo, então, obrigada por falar conosco Katie, foi um prazer conhecê-la!
